Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Sergio Santos placed on 15-day disabled list – MLB News
The Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Sergio Santos has been placed on 15-day disabled (DL) list after his right shoulder hurt with a growing inflammation in the game against Kansas City Royals.
The team management announced his non availability for 15 day after the 9-5 win over the Royals on late Saturday evening.
Sergio Santos, a former Chicago White Sox ace pitcher, was hurt in the ninth innings of second game with the Royals which took place on Friday at Kauffman Stadium leaving him in miserable condition for next two weeks. The Royals however, also lost the series with one game remaining later tonight.
The team manager John Farrell said for his player, “He didn't feel quite right in that save situation last night, and as the evening progressed, he felt more tightness throughout the night. He woke up [Saturday] morning with that inflammation kind of rearing its head."
Later Santos said, "It wasn't that bad. I could kind of fight through it, and then I woke up [Saturday] morning and it was barking pretty good. I came in and let the staff know. Their thought was let's get this over with and not have it drag on, so let's shut it down now and hope that we can catch it early."
The potential replacement for Santos is right-handed pitcher Evan Crawford. He will be joining the Blue Jays from their farm system (Minor League) team Double-A New Hampshire on Sunday.
Only two-year veteran in the Major League Baseball, Santos was playing in this season with an ERA of 9.00 along with two saves, four strikeouts and 2.00 WHIP.
On the other hand, his career ERA is consistent at 3.53 along with 33 saves, 152 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP.
His recent injury is a serious matter for the Blue Jays’ management. The Blue Jays, who are currently playing relatively consistent game, surely recognise the significance of Sergio Santos’ injury. The management knows as how good and consistent his game is and in order to show their next opponents a complete set of defence, they need Santos’ power plays back before the mid season break.
