Toronto Blue Jays thrash Baltimore Orioles 4-1 – MLB Spring Training
Toronto Blue Jays thrashed Baltimore Orioles 4-1 at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida on Monday, March 12 in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions.
The Jays made the most of available opportunities in a game that was fairly one sided. Executing their game plan to perfection, the Jays put their rivals under immense pressure and then capitalised on each scoring opportunity.
The 44-year-old veteran pitcher, Omar Vizquel put up a strong show as he still tries to prove he belongs to Major League Baseball. The starter has produced some magical performances since the start of his MLB career. Even after spending 23 seasons in MLB, he looks hungry for more wins and strike-outs. It will be interesting to see if he can bring consistency into his game play to continue for yet another full season.
Vizquel joined the camp as a non roster invitee. He displayed some high quality throwing skills under pressure and it seems the pitcher is moving in the right direction to win a utility fielder place on Twins’ roster. Making two dazzling plays at third base, he will be very pleased what he managed to achieve during the contest. Vizquel carved a Hall of Fame-type career at the shortstop and he will now be eager to prove his metal at third base.
"His internal clock is what allows him to make up for any deficiencies in arm strength," Farrell said, "how quickly he gets rid of the ball and his understanding and knowledge of the hitters and the speed of the hitters. Whether he gets them by a half-step or a quarter-step or two steps, they're an out. It's impressive to watch his instincts really come out, particularly in the plays today."
"So many different things he's been exposed to," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said of Chen. "Now he's pitched on the road.”
Twins’ Brandon Morrow allowed only one hit in his three scoreless innings to let his side establish complete control over the contest. Orioles' starter Wei Yin Chen struck-out twice and gave up just two hits over three innings.
