Toronto Blue Jays thrash Baltimore Orioles 9-2 - MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays thrash Baltimore Orioles 9-2 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, April 15 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
For Toronto, Edwin Encarnacion played a key role as he hit a two run homer. Brett Lawrie added a solo shot to help his team score seven runs in the sixth inning.
Orioles’ pitcher Brian Matusz gave up five runs and seven hits in just over five innings to lose his debut start of the season. The starter will be looking to do a better job on his next MLB appearance.
"It's so frustrating," Matusz said. "I know what went on last year, I know it was a horrible year and so far I'm off to a horrible start. It's building up and it's frustrating. I'm just flat-out not getting the job done."
"His fastball command is still not quite where it needs to be," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He had some counts he couldn't quite put guys away."
The Blue Jays finally managed to restore some of the lost pride as they defeated the Orioles convincingly in third and final game. After losing the opening two games of a three match series, the team had received a great amount of criticism from some of their fans and coaching staff.
Baltimore Orioles won the battle of nerves in the opening game to clinch a hard fought 7-5. The next game was also played on a similar note and the orioles secured another thriller 6-4. It seemed the Blue Jays, who had lost of only two in their previous six, were going to suffer their first series sweep of this year.
However, John and Farrell and company turned the tables on their rivals in the following game to gain some kind of momentum before going into their next series. With their win on Sunday night, the Blue Jays have now improved their win-loss record to 5-4. After being humiliated in front their home crowd; the Blue Jays will have to work extremely in their next game against Kansas City Royals.
