Toronto Blue Jays thrashed by Kansas City Royals 3-11 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals thrashed the Toronto Blue Jays 11-3 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, July 2 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yunel Escobar provided the Blue Jays with a perfect start as he grounded out to second in the first inning and Brett Lawrie scored to put his side 1-0 ahead. Jose Bautista continued his stunning hitting form as he homered to centre in the third inning to
reduce Royals’ lead to 2-4 but apart from Bautista none of the hitters could live up to the expectations.
Cody Rasmus homered to right in the fifth to keep the Blue Jays in the game but the effort was never going to be enough. Starting pitcher Ricky Romero had one of his worst outings of the season as he lost at Rogers Centre for the first time in almost a year.
Allowing eight runs and a season high 11 hits in just six plus innings, he looked completely out of sorts.
"Every time you just keep getting deeper and deeper and you don't know how to get out of it," he said in a post game interview.
"It was really cool," said Royals’ Mike Moustakas, who hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. "I got a good pitch to hit, got a fastball over the middle of the plate and just tried not to do too much with it."
"That was big," he added. "It helped me a lot."
The win will be of great importance for the Royals who had lost three out of four against Minnesota Twins in their previous series. Credit should be given to the Manager Ned Yost for keeping the players focused.
Blue Jays, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their effort in a game that proved to be completely one sided. The bullpen’s weaknesses were exposed once again as the Royals stacked up a huge total on the board. Toronto’s hitters, on the other hand,
were unable to take advantage of their home conditions and they ended up paying the ultimate price.
