Toronto Blue Jays topple Los Angeles Angels 7-5 to level series – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays finally managed to find their winning ways as they beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Friday, June 29 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
First baseman Adam Lind, who is having a quiet time at the plate this season, improved his average to .202. Lind hit a three run home-run to centre in the fourth and he added a solo shot to left in the eighth to help Toronto clinch a memorable victory. Relief
pitcher Francisco Cordero won for the third time this season and Casey Janssen had his ninth save in ten chances.
"He's just in a better place mentally," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said in a post game interview. "The struggles that he had earlier in the year were well documented, he needed to get a little bit of a breather to kind of free some things up. The swings
we saw tonight are those that we've been accustomed to seeing for a long time."
Los Angeles Angels will be disappointed with their performance in a game that was extremely important for both teams. After securing a hard fought 9-7 win in the opening game, the Angels had momentum on their side.
However, despite taking an early 2-0 lead, they were unable hold off their more disciplined opponents. It will be interesting to see if the Angels can bring some consistency in their results over the next few weeks to trouble Texas Rangers at the top of
American League West Division standings.
"We just didn't set the tone early enough on the mound," Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said. "Ervin got through the first couple of innings and in the fourth just missed with some spots."
Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell, on the other hand, will be very pleased with what he saw from the players in a nail biting contest. Edwin Encarnacion put Toronto on the board with a single centre in the fourth and Yunel Escobar singled to shallow left in
the fourth and Encarnacion scored to level score 2-2.
