Toronto Blue Jays win series against Texas Rangers 5-2 – MLB Update
The Toronto Blue Jays were successful in winning their first series against the Texas Rangers 5-2 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Thursday, April 28.
Corey Patterson was the key player of the night and he definitely played a vital part in helping the Blue Jays win the match. Just a few days earlier Patterson had hit a home-run that broke the tied match in the ninth inning and defeated the American League
leading Rangers.
Patterson got a single run for his play as John McDonald who was kept at the third base until the ball was in play managed to score the go ahead run.
"Safety squeeze. [Patterson] did an excellent job. It's one of the things we worked on extensively in spring training," manager John Farrell said. "In that situation, left on left, first and third, good pitcher on the mound who's good on left-handers, Corey
did an excellent job with the execution and the placement and a good read by McDonald to score."
Adam Lind successfully homered one more time for his team. The one he belted out in the match was his third one in the series and his fourth one since the season began.
Alexi Ogando of the Rangers managed to strike-out seven along with three walks as he allowed two runs and four hits through the duration of six innings.
Brandon Morrow who was making his second start for Toronto obviously had a lot to prove which he somewhat did when he managed to strike-out six players in the duration of six innings while allowing a single walk.
Lind from Toronto’s side was the first one to score in the match. He hit a home-run towards right-field in the first innings as Bautista took the opportunity to score.
The Texas Rangers had the next two runs, one in the first innings and the other in the third inning. Adrian Beltre singled as Elvis Andrus scored and then later Michael Young hit a sacrifice fly off which Ian Kinsler scored.
In the ninth inning Patterson successfully reached to the pitcher on a bunt single as John McDonald scored and Yunel Escobar moved himself to second base.
"It definitely worked out for us. I wanted to put the bunt in the right location," Patterson said. "I would have been fine even if they would have thrown me out."
Another run came for the Blue Jays, once again in the ninth inning as Escobar scored whereas Patterson moved himself to third base and Bautista went over to second base. Patterson managed to score as Darren Oliver committed a throwing error.
