Toronto FC 1-0 http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vancouver-Whitecaps-FC-c40870: TFC’s redemption at the hands of Nick Soolsma
Canadian outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744, played host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the week-17 Major League Soccer fixture at BMO Field Wednesday, June 29.
Nick Soolsma brought redemption to the Reds with the only goal of the game in the 57th minute. This was TFC’s first win after May 7, when they defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 2-1 at the same site.
The match started without any noticeable action as both teams rested their top guns for the second leg of Nutrilite Cup Championship scheduled on Saturday, June 2.
Chances were few and hard to come by in the first-half as both defences stayed firm, and the opening period ended in a stalemate.
The second-half, however, started in stark contrast. Despite being an important asset for the upcoming match on the weekend, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eric-Hassli-c12705 was brought on by the visitors.
Both teams endeavoured in the second half to surge into opponent’s area with some brisk runs. Despite not being able to score himself, Hassli did create space for his teammates on the field.
The designated player’s addition upfront opened up the play as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Soehn had deployed Salgado as the lone striker prior to Hassli’s induction.
However, the forward duo failed to capitalize on the possession, 65 percent of it, and the score line remained untroubled. The lone goal of the game came in the 57th minute when Soolsma found the ball near Vancouver’s penalty area.
The player dribbled into the box and tried to elude http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greg-Janicki-c15217 in front of the goalmouth. The Dutchman tempted Janicki to challenge him in an attempt to win a penalty. The bait was taken and the referee, Mark Geiger, immediately pointed to the spot.
The Dutch import stepped up and sent goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Nolly-c18103 the wrong way. However, Joao Plata was found guilty of encroaching into the box before the whistle and the penalty had to be retaken. Soolsma made no mistake this time either, registering his first
MLS goal.
The best chance for the away team came in the 60th minute when the Brazilian winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camilo-c8287 Sanvezzo, fed Salgado with a cross from the left side. The striker controlled the ball well but could not provide the appropriate finish as the ball flew
just wide of the near post.
The Three points take TFC to 6th position in the Eastern Conference, tied with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 at 18 points.
