Toronto Maple Leafs' President/CEO Richard Peddie wants Stanley Cup ring before retirement –NHL Update
In what some people might consider the funniest dialogue of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason, Toronto Maple Leafs President and CEO, Richard Peddie, has officially stated that he wants a Stanley Cup championship and ring on his finger before
he announces his retirement, which the hockey world can expect at any time during the upcoming seasons.
“My retirement agreement is that I get a ring if we do it in the next three years”, Peddie said on Saturday. “The next guy is going to get all the credit and get his name on the Cup. Which is cool, because I think hockey is the only sport where the suits
get their name on the trophy”.
According to this friendly deal, even if the Canadian team manages to win in the next three years, Peddie will receive a ring regardless whether he is the president/CEO at that time or not. It is all due to his optimism that the club is where it is today.
It might not be in its best position in history but it certainly is growing and the franchise has taken drastic steps for the benefit and overall improvement of one of the hockey world best known teams, Toronto Maple Leafs.
Some might blame Toronto’s failure up until now as general manager, Brian Burke’s fault, but when looking at his dedication to the team so far, it is hard to tell where he went wrong.
“When you are the general manager of the Leafs, it’s more than what you do on the ice. You’re a spokesman for hockey and the NHL. It takes a very special person to be captain of the Leafs and to be the GM”, added Peddie about his general manager, Brian Burke.
Richard Peddie might not have had success on the ice rink but he has certainly made Toronto Maple Leafs into a financial monster. Since his takeover, he has tripled the clubs value to over $1.5 billion and during the year 2008, were the most valuable team
in the entire league.
Being a man with a great business mind, Peddie is sure to leave behind a well remembered legacy.
