Toronto Maple Leafs’ Colby Armstrong to undergo MRI
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Colby Armstrong will undergo an MRI on Wednesday 27 October after taking a slash to the right hand.
Armstrong's hand took a slash from Chris Higgins in the Leafs win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday 26 October. Armstrong sustained the injury in the first period and left the game immediately and did not return.
The 27-year-old will hopefully be able to play in the club’s game against the Boston Bruins on Thursday 28 October when they travel to the TD Garden. If the winger is not able to go against the Bruins they will hope to have him back in the line-up when they
come back home to face-off against the New York Rangers on Saturday 30 October.
Armstrong has been struggling on the score sheet with the Maple Leafs this season. However, he has served well on the club’s third line, helping to shut down the opponent’s top line. The Lloydminster native has been a staple on the squad’s penalty kill and
has very much filled the role of bottom-six forward that was intended for him when the Leafs signed the veteran over the summer.
If Armstrong is forced to miss any time, the Leafs are likely to replace him with centre John Mitchell, who has been a healthy scratch for seven of the Leafs' eight games this season.
The Leafs have put together a strong season thus far, sitting at 5-2-1, leading the Northeast division and the Eastern Conference with 11 points. Toronto has been able to improve in part due to their players' willingness to buy into their roles. The club
has divided the workload down the middle with the top two lines focused on scoring and the bottom two focused on killing penalties and keeping their opponents off the score board.
So far in eight games this season, Armstrong has managed one goal and zero assists.
