Toronto Maple Leafs aim to dominate Philadelphia Flyers – NHL Preview
If the Philadelphia Flyers continue to follow their current path, Toronto Maple Leafs would not face much of a trouble in winning the encounter scheduled on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Both these teams have a good place in the National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference ranking table and can easily reach the playoffs, but the current performance is causing a lot of problems for Philadelphia.
After playing 53 games, Philadelphia is placed at fourth spot with 67 points.
It has won its last three games out of which two were on the road.
The last defeat came against New York Islanders in which the game was decided after shootout. After the game, many questions were raised on Flyers’ ability to score.
However, Flyers’ defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, is not bothered by the criticism. Instead, he thinks that his team played well despite getting the defeat.
He said after the game that:
“I was happy with the way we played. If we play like that, we'll win a lot of games. That's our hockey. We skate, we hit, we force teams to turn the puck over. We had chances, but he made the saves. We played a complete game for 65 minutes."
Such confidence will really help Flyers against Toronto, which lost its last game, but is in very good form.
Toronto is ranked at seventh spot in the conference with 62 points after 54 games.
The recent defeat against Winnipeg Jets ended Toronto’s three-game winning streak.
Toronto scored a goal in the first period, but the Jets came back sharply to score two goals and get the victory.
Toronto’s goalie, James Reimer, said that the team should have scored more goals.
He commented:
“It was disappointing. I felt like we had the chances and we controlled most of the play. We just couldn't find any good scoring chances in tight. Kudos to them for blocking up the net.”
Both these teams are coming after a loss into this game. However, Toronto has been playing well both on offence and on defence.
On the other hand, Flyers desperately need to work on the defence.
It will be an even contest with a slight edge to Toronto.
