Toronto Maple Leafs could end its losing streak against Edmonton Oilers – NHL Preview
Against the backdrop of previous meeting between Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs in a National Hockey League (NHL) game, it is easily to pick the winner of the next encounter.
However, both the teams have played a few games after playing against each other and that record should be kept in mind before predicting the result of the game scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In the last meeting, Toronto comprehensively defeated Oilers to get its third straight win after dominating the last two periods of the regulation. The final score settled at 6-3.
But Toronto has played four games after that victory and has not won any.
It lost against Winnipeg Jets (2-1), Philadelphia Flyers (4-3), Montreal Canadiens (5-0) and Calgary Flames (5-1).
Except for the game against Montreal, all the losses were suffered on road, and with every game, the defence lost its way further.
Against Flames, Toronto was really pathetic.
Calgary scored two goals in the first period, and Toronto replied with one, but Flames managed three more goals in the next two periods to humiliate Toronto.
Toronto’s coach, Ron Wilson, said after the game:
"We have to find a way to get to the front of the net and get rebounds because there were rebounds. We got shots through. They did a pretty good job of boxing out. It's a combination. You've got to give them credit, and we still have to find ways to win
those battles in front of the net."
Toronto is placed at eight spot in the Eastern Conference with 62 points after 57 games.
Oilers have only played two games after getting defeated against Toronto.
Edmonton lost against Detroit Red Wings (4-2), but managed to win the game against Ottawa Senators (4-3 in overtime).
Oilers gave a tough time to the Senators, who got a lead early in the first period.
Edmonton got two goals in the second and one in the third as the game ended 3-3 in the regulation.
Within the first minute of the overtime, Oilers scored to get the victory.
Edmonton’s Sam Gagner said after the game:
"It's a good feeling in here getting a win like that, especially in overtime. They come hard and they played really well, so we're going to carry this momentum home.”
Edmonton is placed at 14th spot in the Western Conference with 49 points after 55 games.
Predictions:
Toronto might end its losing streak.
The sum of total goals scored in the game is expected to be over six.
The goal difference can be more than two.
