Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Boston Bruins 5-2 – NHL Recap
The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 5-2 at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday. The game was important for both teams, as the Maple Leafs are looking to score points to get into the National Hockey League play-off cut and the Bruins need the points
to close the gap in the standings with second place Washington Capitals.
The game started off with the Maple Leafs taking the lead early in the period, which was later equalized by the Bruins. However, the Leafs managed to score again to get back into the lead. The second period was dominated by the Maple Leafs, as they scored
three goals to end the period leading 5-1. The Bruins scored the lone goal of the final period in the final minute, but it was the Maple Leafs who won the game 5-2 in the end. Maple Leafs’ goal-keeper, James Reimer, was named the Star of the Game, as he made
35 saves during the course of the match.
Both teams came up with shots on goal early in the period, but it was the Maple Leafs passing and the shooting that was brilliant. The Maple Leafs, with the strong start managed to score in the 10th minute through Luke Schenn from a decent strike
to get into the lead.
The Bruins were able to come up with shots of their own, as they scored in the 12th minute through Adam McQuaid from a simple tip-in shot to level the score. The Meaple Leafs were able to continue with their dominating offence, as they scored
once again in the 13th minute through Nazem Kadri to get back into the lead. The period ended with the Maple Leafs leading 2-1.
The second period saw the Maple Leafs coming up with some dominating play, as they scored in the 8th minute through Joey Crabb. The Maple Leafs continued to attack and scored once again in the 9th minute through Mike Brown from a quick
fired shot.
The final goal of the period was scored by the Maple Leafs in the 18th minute through Keith Aulie from a flick-shot. The period ended with the Maple Leafs leading 5-1. During the course of the period, the Maple Leafs made 12 shots on goal, while
the Bruins managed 15.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams coming up with a decent display of ice hockey. Though there were fewer shots at the net, but the Bruins’ Daniel Paille managed to score the lone goal of the period in the final minute. The period and the game ended
with the Maple Leafs winning the game 5-2.
