Toronto Maple Leafs grab second win, dominate Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 -NHL Match Update
The Columbus management is under fire nowadays after it had the worst months throughout the National Hockey League (NHL) and stands number 15 in the Western Conference. Toronto only worsened their situation as the Maple Leafs dominated the Blue Jackets,
4-1, Thursday night, November 3, 2011, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
Blue Jackets goalie, Steve Mason, had a tough time in the net when he allowed four goals to go through him on only 11 attempts, forcing Columbus head coach, Scott Arniel, to call him out of the match and replace him with backup goaltender, Allen York.
"We scored awful easy", Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson said of Mason. "The other kid had a tough night".
"Everyone has those games where you're just fighting it for whatever reason", Maple Leafs goalie, Ben Scrivens, said while sympathising with Mason. "He's a Calder Trophy winner. He's a good goalie. He's proven himself in this league. I'm just happy I was
able to get a win".
Joey Crabb and Clarke MacArthur scored two straight after managing to kill off two penalties given by Dion Phaneuf, once for hooking and the second minor for roughing.
John-Michael Liles extended the lead even further 50 seconds into the second period while MacArthur took control of the puck and scored his sixth of the season in the next five minutes, unassisted, to ultimately secure the match in favour of the Maple Leafs.
"I just put it to the net and sometimes you're going to get one of those, once in a while", MacArthur said. "You feel bad for the goalie, almost."
Ryan Johansen, Columbus’ 2010 NHL Entry Draft pick who was allowed to remain with them for his first major league season, scored his third and the only Blue Jackets goal of the night with less than nine minutes to go in the second, but as both teams failed
to score any more, Blue Jackets ultimately took the game.
Toronto Maple Leafs have the next two matchups at home, starting off with the Boston Bruins on Saturday, while the Blue Jackets face the Flyers in Philadelphia the same day.
