Toronto Maple Leafs host the Pittsburgh Penguinsin their fourth and final meeting of the season
The first game of Wednesday will be hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre as the play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two sides. The Penguins lead the series 2-1 as they have on the last two games during the season between the two sides.
The most recent game between the two sides between the Conference rival was very tight as the Penguins managed to edge out ahead and win the game 6-5 in the end after shootout.
Maple Leafs is looking to regain some form and make their way back into the play-offs.
However, the Penguins on the other hand are hoping to turn their season around which has mostly been injury prone.
Penguins are still said to be a very strong team as they have played most of the season without their main players in Evgeni Malkin and Captain Sidney Crosby.
The Penguins are on a five games road trip out of which they have won one game in regulation time and the other in shootout. The third meeting between the two teams was the Penguins first road trip game which they won in the end.
The Penguins will be confident of the win they secured in their most recent game a few days ago and given the fact that players like Chris Kunitz and Mark Letestu are returning to the Penguins roster would give them the extra strength and edge over their
opponents.
Penguins would be happy to learn the fact that Alex Kovalev who a recent addition to the Penguins scored a goal in his very first game and scored the shootout winner against the Maple Leafs.
"It brings back old memories," Kovalev said following the game. "I know I can be the same player, and I feel like I have another opportunity to be that type of player and play in the playoffs. It's exciting."
The Penguins have played 64 games during the course of the season out of which they have won 37 games in regulation time and six games in overtime to score a total of 80 points.
On the other hand, the Maple Leafs have played 63 games during the season so far out of which they have won 27 games in regulation time and another nine in overtime to score a total of 63 points.
The Maples Leafs lost their recent game against the Penguins after which they played the Atlanta Thrashers.
However, despite establishing a two goals lead it was the Thrashers who won the game 3-2 in the end.
"We couldn't generate anything," goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said after the Thrashers loss. "We were lackadaisical."
If the Maple Leafs wants to move out of the 10th spot and into the eight spot then they need to win this game and the upcoming games as they are five points behind the eighth seeded Carolina Hurricanes.
