Forbes Magazine, which is one of the most recognized and most popular magazine of the world, has issued a statement and after doing an evaluation, revealed that Toronto Maple Leafs are the most valuable NHL team at the moment.
According to Forbes Magazine, the value Toronto, Ontario based side is $1 Billion, which is much more than the other NHL teams.
Tom Anselmi, the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Toronto Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, was very happy on the evaluation and was also very pleased on knowing his teams worth. He wrote an email to the Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com and stated
his happiness by writing,
"I'm intrigued by the evaluation”.
Anselmi admitted that the popularity of their team is growing very fast and they got to know it after the acquisition of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) but they never knew the exact importance of the team and surely surprised by the revelation
of Forbes Magazine, as he added,
“The recent MLSE acquisition clearly demonstrates the growing importance of all of our franchises to our fans, but I have no idea of how they came up with that number.''
Even though Toronto Maple Leafs is the team that has won Stanley Cup for the record number of 13 times, but they are the team that has won the Stanley Cup second most times.
Stanley Cup is considered to the most prestigious trophy of the ice hockey world and also the oldest competition of the game. Though Montreal Canadiens have won the competition 24 times, which is way more than number of times Maple Leafs won it, but it should
be forgotten that there was a time when both of the teams held same number of titles.
When Maple Leafs won the competition on 1964, they equalled the tally of 12 titles by Canadiens and when they Maple Leafs won their last title in 1967, they were only one short of Canadiens 14. But since 1967, Maple Leafs has not won any championship and
on the other hand Canadiens have won 24 titles since then. Canadiens are worth $575 million, whereas New York Rangers are at second position with worth of $750 million.
