Toronto Maple Leafs lose J-S Giguere for up to two weeks
The Toronto Maple Leafs could have to go without starting goaltender J-S Giguere for up to two weeks, as the veteran reportedly suffered a groin injury in the club’s win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday 16 November.
Giguere took himself out of his club’s 5-4 win over the Predators on Tuesday, saying that he was experiencing some discomfort. After the game Giguere said that he was mildly aggravated by an injury in his groin and did not want to injure himself any further.
However, on Wednesday 17 November the team announced that the veteran would be out of the line-up for one or two weeks with a groin injury.
Giguere has been solid for the Leafs this season, but has not been a difference maker, as the club sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference with only 15 points. The victory over the Predators was the first win for the club in eight games.
The Maple Leafs are expected to go with Jonas Gustavsson, while Giguere is out. Gustavsson has played well in his five starts for the club, but has not been getting much support on the offensive end, as his record is 1-3-1. However, the Swede has a strong
2.85 goals-against-average and a respectable .902 save-percentage.
The Leafs announced that they have called up 22-year-old James Reimer to fill in while Giguere is injured. Reimer has started nine games in the American Hockey League this season and has posted a 5-3-1 record with a 2.90 GAA and a .918 save-percentage. Reimer
has never made a start in the National Hockey League, but is likely to get the call at least once if Giguere is out for two weeks.
So far this season Giguere has managed a 5-5-1 record with a 2.78 GAA and a .895 save-percentage.
