Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the New Jersey Devils
Toronto Maple Leafs will host the New Jersey Devils at the Air Canada Centre which will be the first game of Thursday. This will be the third of the four scheduled meetings between the two sides and the first of this year.
The two times they have faced each other in the season Toronto Maple Leafs won both games. The first saw the Maple Leafs winning by 3-1 while the second was won even more comfortably 4-1. Jonas Gustavsson was the player of the in the both games as the goal
keeper who currently is in the AHL made 29 saves during as they wrapped up both games.
The important question ahead of the game is the fact that whether or not the Devils can make it into the play-offs. Though they have come up with some decent and consistent results but the thing that goes against them is that they are still behind five teams
before they get into the final play-off spot.
On the other hand, Toronto Maple Leafs is also in good form as they have won last four out of the five games. With strong plays and consistent performances that they have bagged they are seven points ahead of the Devils and a win would surely strengthen
their chances of a play-off spot finish.
In their last game against the New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leaf came up with a very dominating performance that saw the offence at the very best. They scored two goals with the two opening shots of the period and it looked that the Islanders were in
for a big loss. However, they managed to crawl their way back into the game levelling the scores.
Nevertheless, this didn’t seem to stop the Maple Leafs from attacking as they kept on piling the pressure and scored thrice to win the game 5-3 in the end. "This time of the year, with where we are in the standings, we have to put games together," said Colby
Armstrong, who opened the scoring and added a pair of assists.
Both teams have played 54 games in the season so far out which Devils have won 20 games in regulation time, 4 games in overtime and scored 44 points. While Toronto Maple Leafs has won 23 games in regulation time and 5 games in overtime scoring 51 games.
Devils came up with a very strong performance against the Carolina Hurricanes. Hurricanes dominated the game but they failed to wrap up the game in regulation time. It took the Devils overtime to win the game 3-2 which meant they failed to gain two points
on the eighth place Hurricanes scoring only a point.
"The confidence is definitely higher than the first couple of months," said Johan Hedberg, who made 20 saves and picked up the secondary assist on the winning goal. "This is probably a game we would have lost earlier in the year. It was great to come back
and get this one with the young guys getting the goals."
