Toronto Maple Leafs win 3-2 against the Philadelphia Flyers
Another one of Thursday’s game was played at the Wells Fargo as the Philadelphia Flyers hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The game was important for both teams with the Flyers looking to close the gap on the Vancouver Canucks for the league lead while the Maple Leafs needed a win to move close into the play-off contention.
Both teams were pretty much even during the course of the first two periods.
However, it was the Flyers who scored the first goal of the game to get into the lead.
But the goal that made the difference was scored by the Maple Leafs in the final period which was also the lone goal in the final 20 minutes.
Resultantly, the Maple Leafs won the game 3-2 in the end.
Kris Versteeg of the Flyers was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and performed brilliant during the game.
After a slow and steady start to the game both teams caught pace with the passage of time.
A goal was surely to be scored in the upcoming minutes but it was question of when it would be scored.
The Flyers set the home crowd wild as they scored in the 6th minute through Kris Versteeg from a powerful strike to get into the lead.
However, the joy was short-lived as the Maple Leafs managed to score in the very next minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Nikolai Kulemin from a powerful strike.
The period saw both teams coming up with the occasional shots but the brilliant pieces of play were constructed throughout the period. The scores were level on 1-1 as the teams went into the break as both of them made 9 goal attempts each during the period.
The Flyers got off to a flying start at the start of the second period as they dominated the game with their strong offensive play. Resultantly, they scored through Kris Versteeg once again in the 8th minute to get into the lead once again.
The Maple Leafs managed to fight their way back into the game and came with some decent shots on goal. The period saw the Maple Leafs finally scored in the final minute to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Dion Phaneuf from a well placed
flick shot.
The period ended with the scores still level on 2-2 as the second period ended. During the period, the Maple Leafs made 17 goal attempts while the Flyers managed to fire 11 shots on goal.
After a slow start to the proceedings, the Maple Leafs was successful in not allowing any goals. This gave them a lot of boost and with the offence which became very strong in the final stages of each of the first two periods; they dominated the game in
this period too.
The away side stunned the home crowd as they scored in the 16th minute through Daryyl Boyce from a brilliant wrap-around shot.
This proved to be the winning goal as the Maple Leafs won the game 3-2 in the end. During the final period, the Maple Leafs made 7 shots on goal while the Flyers made 10 shots on goal.
