Toronto Maple Leafs wins 2-1 against the New York Islanders
The first game of Tuesday was played at the Air Canada Centre as the home team, the Toronto Maple Leafs were up against the New York Islanders. The game was very important for both sides as they looked for crucial points that would help them in the play-off
running.
The scores were level as the teams went into the final period. During the final period, the Maple Leafs managed to come up with some decent plays and scored the winning goal to win the game 2-1 in the end. James Reimer, goal keeper of the Maple Leafs was
named the star selection of the game for making 28 saves during the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them making goal attempts after a few minutes past in the period. The game was evenly matched by the two teams as they looked to score to get into the lead early on.
The defence of both teams was brilliant as they cut down any attacks that would have been dangerous in the end. There several scoring chances for both teams to score early on, but the frontline failed to convert them into goals. However, the Maple Leafs
successfully scored in the 11th minute through Clarke McArthur from a well placed shot.
Both teams kept on making goal attempts but failed to convert them into goals. The period ended with the Maple Leafs leading 1-0 as they made 9 goal attempts in the period while the Islanders made 7 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Islanders stronger of the two teams as they were on the attack right from the word go. The away side was able to score in the 9th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Matt Moulson during power
play from a brilliant backhand shot.
Though the period was more productive in terms of goal attempts but things were on level terms at the end of the period. Both teams were level on 1-1 as the period ended with the Islanders making 13 goal attempts in the period while the Maple Leafs made
11 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams coming up with a very tight defence. Neither of the teams was able to get past the opposing defence early on. However, with the passage of time, the Islanders were able to come up with some superb play that saw them coming
scoring chances.
Unfortunately, they were caught on a counter attack and it was the Maple Leafs who scored in the 16th minute through Phil Kessel from a well placed shot to get into the lead. There wasn’t much to talk about as the period neared its end as the
defence was totally on top of their game. The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the Islanders winning the game 2-1 in the end.
During the final period, the Islanders made 9 goal attempts while the Maple Leafs made 5 goal attempts.
