Toronto Maple Leafs wins 4-3 against Boston Bruins in a shootout after a goalless overtime
Boston Bruins hosted Toronto Maple Leafs this Thursday in what was the first game of the day and was won by Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-3, in the end after a shootout.
Maple Leafs still had chances of making it into the playoff’s cut while Bruins has already clinched the playoff spot and was looking to improve on the third position it occupies in the Eastern Conference.
Both teams were slow out of the blocks but got better with the passage of time. Maple Leafs, after some brilliant play-making, scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead.
There were several chances for both teams to bag more goals but this didn’t happen.
The second period saw Bruins coming out strong and scoring two early goals to get into the lead. Maple Leafs scored a goal to level the proceedings but it was Bruins who scored once again to get back into the lead.
The final period was relatively dry in terms of shots on goal but Maple Leafs scored the lone goal of the period to level the scores.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored there and it was Maple Leafs that won the game by 4-3 after a shootout.
Joffrey Lupul, Leafs’ winger, was named the star for scoring two goals and an important assist.
There were some missed passes and wide shots on goal at the start of the period but things got better for both the teams with the passage of time. Maple Leafs scored in the 8th minute through Luke Schenn’s well placed flick shot.
Both teams made quite a few shots on goal but no more goals were scored as the period ended with Maple Leafs leading by 1-0.
Bruins made a great start to the second period which saw it scoring two successive goals in the third and fourth minute to get into lead.
The goals were scored by Brad Marchand and David Krejci from two brilliant strikes.
Maple Leafs was able to respond with a goal in the eighth minute scored by Joffrey Lupul from a decent strike. However, Bruins scored once again in the 9th minute through Andrew Ference’s powerful strike.
The period ended with Bruins leading 3-2 as it made 18 shots on goal while Maple Leafs made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play began with both teams making early shots on goal but they were unable to find the back of the net. However, Maple Leafs finally levelled the scores with a goal in the 8th minute through Lupul once again.
The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 which took the game into overtime but no goals were scored. The game went into a shootout from where Maple Leafs emerged as 4-3 winners of the game.
