Toronto Maple Leafs wins 4-3 against Buffalo Sabres to keep chances of a playoff spot alive
Toronto Maple Leafs played host to Buffalo Sabres at the Air Canada Center this Tuesday and won 4-3 in a nail-biting game.
The game was important for both teams with Sabres looking to maintain its final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference while Maple Leafs was hoping to win and keep chances of a playoff spot alive.
The game started off with Maple Leafs striking first blood and getting into the lead in the early stages. Bothe teams came up with some decent plays but it was Maple Leafs who scored once again to double its lead.
Sabres also managed to grab a goal with a few seconds remaining.
The second period saw Maple Leafs scoring early once again. Sabres with its strong offence scored twice to level the scores but Maple Leafs was able to edge out ahead once again with a midway period goal.
The final period didn’t see any goals and the game ended with Maple Leafs winning 4-3 in the end.
Clarke McArthur of Leafs was named the star of the game as he scored a goal and came up with two assists which included the last two.
Both teams made a strong offensive start which saw shots flying on goal right from the word go. Maple Leafs managed to score in the second minute through its captain, Dion Phaneuf’s, powerful strike to get into the lead.
The period moved on with both teams coming across scoring chances regularly. There were several occasions where it was almost certain that the teams would score. It took some time for the second goal to be scored but finally it was scored in the 19th
minute through Darryl Boyce to double the lead.
Sabres also managed to grab a goal in the final minute through Thomas Vanek and the period ended with Maple Leafs leading 2-1 at the end of the period.
The second period saw both teams continuing on the strong offensive roads and they scored in the sixth minute through Clarke McArthur to extend their lead. The Sabres responded with some strong plays that saw them scoring twice in the seventh minute to level
the scores.
The goals were scored by Jason Pominville while the second goal was scored by Rob Niedermayer.
Maple Leafs managed to construct some decent attacks and it scored in the 14th minute through Mikhail Grabvoski to get back into the lead.
The final period saw both teams coming up with several shots on goal with Sabres making 8 shots on goal while Maple Leafs made 14 shots on goal.
However, the period didn’t see any goals and the game ended with Maple Leafs winning 4-3 in the end.
