Toronto Maple Leafs wins 5-3 against the New York Islanders
The second game of Tuesday was hosted by the New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum. The game saw the home teams up against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was the 803rd game of the season which was attended by quite a few fans.
The game was pretty much evenly matched throughout the course of the three periods but Toronto Maple Leafs managed to put the foot on the gas in the final period where they scored three goals and won the match 5-3 in the end. Colby Armstrong of the Toronto
Maple Leafs was named the start selection of the match for his goal and an assist.
Toronto Maple Leafs made a great to the match firing shots every now and then and displaying some excellent passing abilities. After a very good start to the match, Maple Leafs with their strong play managed to score in the 2nd minute through
Colby Armstrong to get into the lead. The goal was scored from a brilliant quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper by surprise.
After continuous attacking, the Maple Leafs successfully doubled the lead with another goal in the 7th minute. The goal was scored by Jay Rosehill from a simple tip in shot. New York Islanders started to construct attacks after the second goal
as Maple Leafs didn’t attack that much. The match saw another goal scored in the 11th minute by Matt Moulson from a decent strike in favour of the New York Islanders.
The period saw New York Islanders finish the period on a high bombarding shots on goal. Toronto Maple Leafs led 2-1 going into the break with the Islanders making 12 goal attempts in the period while Maple Leafs made 9 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams making a decent start to the match which saw them making goal attempts on a regular basis. Shots flew from everywhere on the pitch every now and then. There were several occasions where it looked as if one of the teams would
score but unfortunately this didn’t happen early.
The first and only goal of the period took some time but was finally scored by Michael Grabner in the 16th minute in favour of the New York Islanders. There were several shots on goal by both teams as they looked to score and lead going into the
final period. This didn’t happen as the scores were level on 2-2 at the end of the second period.
The final period saw both explode from the start and shots were made from everywhere on pitch. Toronto Maple Leafs took the early advantage after scoring in the 3rd minute through Tomas Keberle. Maple Leafs kept on piling the pressure and with
some strong pieces of play successfully scored through Nikolai Kulemin in the 9th minute to double the lead.
It seemed that the Maple Leafs couldn’t miss any chance they got as another one their chances in the 15th minute found the back of the net. The goal was scored by Fredrik Sjostrom from decent strike. New York Islanders also scored through Rob
Schremp from a tip in shot in the 19th minute but it was little too late.
The period and the game ended with Maple Leafs winning 5-3 as they made 7 goal attempts in the final period while Islanders made 12 goal attempts.
