Dominic McGuire was set for a trial with Brooklyn Nets but has reportedly cancelled it in order to work out a deal with Toronto Raptors....
According to latest reports, Dominic McGuire has cancelled a workout with the Brooklyn Nets in order to undergo negotiations of a guaranteed contract with the Toronto Raptors.
The 6 ft 9 foot forward spent last season with the Golden State Warriors where he played 64 out of 66 games but was unable to prove his true potential after only receiving 17.6 minutes of playing time on average. During that span,
he averaged 3.5 points per game but his most efficient work came on the defensive end of the floor and he has the promise to become one of the prominent big men in the NBA.
McGuire become a free agent over the summer and has been looking for a suitable offer. He was scheduled to try out with the Nets on Tuesday but decided to cancel after having reportedly agreed to playing next season in Toronto.
Even though the details of the new agreement have not come forth yet but the deal is expected to be for a minimum of one-season with the possibility of a second year.
As per Synergy Sports, McGuire has allowed 0.71 points in the post and also 0.585 points on every isolation possession so far in his career and has the potential to prove and can be a great asset for the Dwane Casey.
The deal could be beneficial for both parties as the Raptors current roster lacks the depth on defensive rotation and that is where McGuire can be of great help as he comes off the bench to perform a defined role.
Apart from having a good defensive mindset, McGuire can also add a tall presence in the paint and can be beneficial while cleaning up the glass. He averaged close to 4 rebounds per game in the limited time he received last season
but with higher minutes, McGuire is most likely to improve on that. The fifth year pro can also provide a good cover for Raptors ace Andrea Bargnani, who has tendency to get injured.
