Toronto Raptors beat Detroit Pistons 97-91; Extend their winning streak to 4 games: NBA Recap
The Toronto Raptors won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday night when they downed the struggling Detroit Pistons 97-91 here at the Air Canada Center. The Pistons are now 2 of 13 on the road.
DeMar DeRozan once again top scored for the Raptors with a team high 23 points, Jose Calderon dished out 17 assists and posted 7 points, Alan Anderson followed up his great game last night with another display of fine shooting
from the three point land, he went 3 of 8 from distance, on his way to 16 points while Jonas Valanciunas contributed 12 points.
"There are a million different ways to win or lose a game and right now we're finding ways to win. That's the most important thing for our group, finding ways to win." said the Raptors Head Coach Dwane Casey.
Greg Monroe had an amazing game for the Pistons, but his efforts could not result in a win. He finished off with 35 points and 10 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey was the only other Detroit player in double digit scoring figures as most
of them struggled on the night, which resulted in their sixth straight loss.
Jason Maxiell made a slam dunk to put the Pistons up 6-2 early before Ed Davis tipped one in to cut the lead by two. It was close for a while; DeRozan nailed two back to back three pointers to put the Raptors up 19-18 but Maxiell
tied the score on 19 with a free throw. Toronto started pulling ahead later in the period and a couple of Valanciunas free throws had them leading 27-23 by the end of the quarter.
Detroit kept themselves in business with some fine shooting from behind the arc as two early three pointers tied the score on 29. Raptors also made some shots from distance to keep the scoreboard running. Terrence Ross knocked
down a three pointer to put the Raptors ahead but rookie Kyle Singler scored a deuce to tie the score on 37. Toronto started pulling ahead in the ensuing passage but the Pistons closed the quarter with a 6 nil run to make it all square on 49 at halftime.
Davis dunked one in early in the second half to tie the score on 57. Despite Raptors' repeated tries to pull ahead Monroe kept the Pistons in the game, he scored 14 of their 22 points in the third period and Detroit were trailing
by just 71-73 at the end of the passage.
The Raps finally broke through at the start of the fourth quarter. Anderson nailed two back to back three pointers to put the Raptors ahead on 88-77 with 6:25 on the regulation. The Pistons came back to make it a 4 point game later
in the period, but the Raptors kept their cool and finished off the game comfortably on 97-91.
