Toronto Raptors down Cleveland Cavaliers 113-99 for their second road win: NBA Recap
Toronto Raptors have become fed up with losing and are getting back to winning ways slowly. They won their third straight on Tuesday night when they dropped the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-99 on the road.
“Sooner or later, you've got to man up and buck up," said Coach Dwane Casey, despite the streak Raptors are 7-19 this season, and 2-14 away from home.
"At some point, you have to play and have some fun. At the end of the day, it's a team sport. It's about doing it the right way and getting everyone involved - that's what we're doing right now." Jose Calderon said after the game,
he finished off with a season high 23 points and handed out 6 assists.
DeMar DeRozan had 16 points and 5 rebounds for the Raptors, Amir Johnson came off the bench to add 17 points, going 6 of 7 from the field, and Alan Anderson was destructive from distance, he went 5 of 7 from the three point land,
to add 18 valuable points.
Anderson Varejao had another big night, but once again his teammates did not support him enough. He finished off with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Kyrie Irving had 23 points and 7 assists in the losing cause.
Raptors depth played an important role in the win, their bench contributed 59 points in comparison to a partly 21 points posted by the Cavaliers bench.
Cleveland started off well but they lost their way in the second half. The first period was quite close for most part but the Cavaliers closed the quarter strongly to go into second period leading 29-22.
Anderson was all heated up in the second period; he sank two back to back three pointers and followed up by a free throw to cut the deficit for the Raptors down to 31-32. The trend of both teams making mini runs throughout the
passage continued in this quarter as well, Calderon made a jumper to leave the Raptors trailing 49-53 at halftime.
Jonas Valanciunas wasted only 24 seconds to score a deuce for Toronto, two minutes later Mickael Pietrus connected one from behind the arc to make it 56-57 for the Raptors. Cleveland stayed in front for a while but Toronto were
close on their heels and Calderon sank a three pointer to tie the score on 62. It was all square on 64 again but the Raptors started pulling ahead later in the quarter. Irving made a jump shot to leave the Cavs trailing 76-78 by the end of the period.
Raptors meant business in the final quarter and soon raced to a 92-80 advantage, a 5 nil run pushed their lead to 104-89 with 5 minutes on the regulation. Anderson knocked down a three pointer to put the Raptors up by 107-93, which
very much sealed it for them.
