Toronto Raptors introduce Kyle Lowry and Landry Fields – NBA News
In a league dominated by point guards at present, Kyle Lowry is trying to make a name for himself.
Lowry was presented by the Toronto Raptors as an official member of the team, along with Landry Fields, in a press conference on Tuesday. The one guard accepted that fact that he is still in the 2nd tier when it comes
to the position, but said that he aims to become a premier point guard of the likes of Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Rajon Rondo.
“I think I’ve broken into that second tier a little bit better than people expected me to and I’m trying to break into that first tier,” said Lowry.
Lowry was acquired from the Rockets in a trade that sent a former first round draft pick and Gary Forbes to Houston. The 6 foot guard knows that the Raptors are not championship contenders for next season, but feels that they
have a good enough team to qualify for the playoffs. And he will be at the centre of their campaign as the starting point guard and playmaker of this young team.
“It’ll be a good team, a playoff team. I think we’ll be a team that’ll run a little bit more, we’ll have a little bit more toughness on defence. We’ll be more defensive-minded, get stops and we’re going to run,” said Lowry.
Lowry began his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies, where present Raptors assistant coach Johnny Davis was a member of the coaching staff. The two have maintained a good relationship since then and Davis’ presence in the Raptors
team will help Lowry adjust into his new home.
Fields was signed as a free agent for a three year deal worth $18 million. He played for the New York Knicks last season, where he had a subpar season after an amazing rookie season.
“I think that was one of the main reasons why the Raptors were so enticing to me. Not only could I come in and defend but the opportunity offensively is right there. With that (New York) team, the dynamics really changed,” said
Fields at the press conference.
Both players will look to help Toronto qualify for the playoffs this season, and have the talent and the roster to accomplish that goal.
