Toronto garbage trucks drive themselves?????????

I was walking to school and unless i was so out of it i was seeing things i saw a garbage truck with a guy hanging of the back and nobody driving. the wheel was turning. it was accelerating and slowing down. it stopped infront of every house. but NOBODY was in the front seat. so am i going insane or do these trucks drive themselves??????? ive looked it up on google but cant find an answer.

I work as a garbage man and there is no remote control, there is a right hand side drive, where the driver is standing on the right so if you are on the left side of the truck you can't see him but you will see the wheel turning.

they have a remote control, kinda like a fly bridge on a boat... Dual controls...
