Question:

Toronto to Miami?

I am planning to move to Miami from Toronto next year when I finish school to pursue a career in the television department. (I'll take any job whether it is assistant coffee maker or teleprompter) I have read a lot about how to get a green card or w/e to the states, but it still is a bit confusing to me.

Would the easiest way to move to the states be to get a job already lined up? Because that would tell me I would need a job in TO first and then get a transfer.

Or are you allowed to go there for a couple months and look for a job and then once hired, get permission to stay?

Also, when should I start this process? I am assuming it is a bit easier for Canadians-but maybe not. I am thinking I should start soon.

Any information from those who have done a move like this or knows the ins and outs would be greatly appreciated!

  1. the more you can have lined up before hand the better.  My wife is canadian and she spent a month and a half just making sure everything was in order to avoid headaches later.

  2. yes but must make sure you can

  3. You have to have the job lined up before you come to the US.  The visa is sponsored by the hiring company.  You can certainly come for an interview (don't tell the INS agent though) but you will need to apply for the work visa from back in Canada.
