I am going to Canada in September. Plan to visit Toronto then going on a day trip to Niagara Falls. Will it be too rush? Thank you for your suggestion.

  1. Driving yourself or as a coach day-trip?

I did it as a a day trip by coach on Dec 30th 2000.

(there was enough snow that I didn't fancy hiring a car and driving myself, but that would otherwise have given more flexibility.)

Something like an 8am pick up from the hotel.

It was a good trip, not too long or short.

Unless you hate being packaged, or already know exactly what you want to do and see, I'd lean towards the coach trip.

I think I got the best time see the Falls, though if you are starting to get Autumn colour that would be something I missed. along with blue skies: we had gentle snow falling.

Niagara-on-the-Lake in the snow was wonderful.

And the frozen ice round the falls spectacular,

but didn't allow "the maid of the mist" to run.  On the other hand the viewing spots and shops weren't packed out with tourists, then, and the arranged lunch at the top of one of the towers was excellent.

Apart from the falls, the place is tacky... There seems little disagreement about that.  It lives on the tourists (as does Niagara on the lake, in a more genteel way)

But the Falls themselves are still worth it.

  2. It depends on what you want to do in Niagara Falls.  If you just want to see the falls and walk around a little, then you should have plenty of time.  If you are interested in doing other excursions such as Journey Behind the Falls, Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds; visiting the whirlpool; seeing the butterfly observatory; etc... then you might be best staying a night.

  3. No you shouldn't be rushed although all summer attractions are still open you can complete most of them in a day. The Maid of the Mist is open Clifton Hill's attractions will be fully open and the falls themself beatutful.

  4. No, a day trip will be just fine. The drive is an 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on traffic. You can even squeeze in a visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
