Torque Converter empty?

Ive just droped an automatic tranmission from an 2000 holden vectra to replace the oil seal and flushed the trans and torque coverter, ive put everything back together but theres one problem i have no gears now im just wondering if I had to full the torque converter up before i put it back in the box??

  1. The transmission oil pump fills the converter in a short time after started,something is wrong,filter is in place?the converter slots is engaging to drive the fuel pump when you put it back into the transmission?Just a thougt.


  2. I'd go back over your repair procedures in detail and see what you did wrong.  You've either left a step out or haven't done something right.  This is what the net said about a ford transmission.

    When you start the engine the hydraulic pump in the transmission fills up the torque converter. You don't want to overfill the transmission right away as 13 quarts won't fit in it while the engine is stopped because the torque converter is empty to start with, that's why you have to start it up a couple of times, otherwise you may blow oil out the vent tube and/or blow some seals
