Torque wrench setting for replace head gasket?

My friend has 1986 Ford Bronco II 2.9 engien. It needs to replace head gasket. I called Ford dealer and they told me that would be $1,200 or more to doing for him. I have book tells which bolt to remove/put back first. But I need know what is lb tq max on wrench to put head back on. My wrench is 30lbs to 250lbs and it has mm if you know the answers, thanks!

  1. Look it up in a Chilton's Manual (not sure where you can find these, my hubby has them though & they're great!). Or you might be able to find it in a Hayes manual for your truck (you can find these at Auto Zone or similar stores.)


  2. Your torque wrench will be fine for that job.

  3. 1st step 22ft. lbs.

    2nd step 51-55 ft. lbs.

    3rd step  pause 5 minutes

    4th step Additional 90 degrees.

    thats with new torque to yield head bolts..for the heads..

    intake manifold is (upper and lower)  11-15 ft. lbs.
