Torrents and viruses???

How do you get a virus from a torrent if all of the files listed are just movie files? I have a mac, so I know that the chances aren't as likely that I'll get a virus, but still. Also, should I scan the files before opening them up? What's a good (preferably free) program to do that?

  1. people but viruses in the files

  2. what they do is they either just put a virus in the file or they give you your file and a virus. i use spybot search and destroy. it has found all the viruses that my norton antivirus 2008 has found and more. it is free and it is very user friendly. you can download it ar http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spy...  and i wouldnt scan every file i open. just ones that seem a too small.

  3. Because a virus can be disguised as just about any file the person wants it to be. That's why they are dangerous and you shouldn't trust downloads from "strange" sites because that system file could really be a Trojan virus or something which could leave you with an empty bank account or corrupt HDD. AVG and Avast are some good programs but not sure if they work for Mac as well.

  4. Well, videos and music has the less chances og having a virus. YOu can get virus when you downloaded zip/rar files. These mostly brings up viruses. You can get Avast to scan the downloaded files in your computer. It is also necessary to scan since you where connected to a p2p network.

    you can download avast here:
