Torres’ Future with Liverpool in Doubt
Spanish football star Fernando Torres is already making a headline, even if Spains World Cup journey is still in its crucial stages. The 26 year-old striker is currently preparing for his team's tough semi-finals match against Germany, but the talk regarding his possible transfer is already one of the biggest news in the World of Football.
Torres’ future with his current team, Liverpool, is in doubt after the team failed to qualify for the next season of the UEFA Champions League. He has already drawn the interest of giant European Teams like Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea. However, he’s not rushing on his decision and is planning to talk with Liverpool Officials after the World Cup.
"I suppose that when the World Cup finishes I will speak to the people at Liverpool and they will explain to me the real situation of how things are at present about the future of the club,” Torres said after hearing reports that Liverpool is under financial instability and has debts amounting around £350million.
Torres was also very vocal about his disappointments with Liverpool after the team failed to fulfill their commitment of putting up a team that has four or five top-class players to be competitive.
Despite the rumors surrounding him, Torres is keeping his focus on the World Cup. So far, he is not having an impressive stint in this year’s biggest tournament. Torres was one of the highly anticipated players before the World Cup, but he hasn’t lived up to the lofty billings. He hasn’t scored a goal for Spain, but he quickly denied the talks that he is bothered by his current status with his club.
"There's time for that but I want to finish the World Cup, go on holiday, as I haven't had a holiday for three years, rest and then there will be time to talk about all of that - the situation isn't going to change whether we talk soon or later," he said.
On the other hand, the new General Manager of Liverpool, Roy Hodgson, will definitely do anything to keep Torres in their fold as well as their team captain, Steven Gerrard. Torres and Hodgson have already made a plan of discussing things after the World Cup.
Torres said that he hasn’t spoken with Hodgson about any deals, but he said that Liverpool made a great move in choosing their new manager. Hodgson, who replaced Rafael Benitez, is one of the reasons behind the success of Fulham last season.
"I was happy he got the job. He did really well at Fulham and I am sure he can do better for Liverpool," he said. "He is a very good manager. He showed that in the past and in the last season with Fulham. Hopefully he will be the right man to give Liverpool the opportunity to be strong again," said Torres.

Even if Torres has publicly declared that he’s not open about contract or transfer talks, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will be heading to Africa to make a pitch for Torres’ service. The European giant club will reportedly offer £55 million and it might still go up depending on the moves of the other interested clubs.
The Spanish club Barcelona also expressed their interest in Torres, but reports said that they will be having a tough time in raising funds to match Chelsea’s offer. Manchester City is also preparing an offer, but experts believe that Torres will turn it down because his priority is playing in the Champions League. Manchester, like Liverpool, will also not be on the Champions League stage next season.
Things are going to be more interesting in the coming days, especially after the World Cup, and whatever decision Fernando Torres makes, it will definitely soon be in the headlines around the world.
