Torres Should Come Back To Spain
The FIFA World Cup is over, with a victory for the Spanish, but not all the Spaniards would be happy with their performance at the World Cup.
Fernando Torres was one of the best in the Euro 2008, but in South Africa he must be the biggest disappointment for his country. He could not come up with a single goal or assist, and had no moment whatsoever in any of the Spanish victories.
However, he was the one who had a little role to play in the final goal, as his cross was not cleared by the defenders and they found the feet of Fabregas, who then placed it for Iniesta for the winning goal. But, even Torres cannot claim his part in that goal, as the cross fed by him was very poor by any standards.
There is no doubt that Torres came into the World Cup after spending a long time on the sidelines due to injury, and thus failed to find his form throughout the tournament. Also, at the last moments of the World Cup, Torres got himself in trouble with a thigh injury.
This totally sums up the last six months of Fernando Torres, who has turned from the best to the worst in a very short time. Sometimes it feels as though Torres might have been faking his way throughout the World Cup, so that he could become part of the Spanish dream team, as he did not look fit in any of the matches of the World Cup.
Another problem with Torres was that he did not develop an understanding with his Spanish teammates. Often times, Torres seemed clueless, and had no idea what to do with the ball. While all the other Spanish players seemed to have developed a good understanding with each other, Fernando Torres seemed like an outsider.
Ironically, Torres is an outsider, as he was the only Spanish player on the field who plays for an English club, Liverpool FC, right now. Although, Xabi Alonso was a former teammate, he has been with Real Madrid for over a year now.
Torres's career with Liverpool has been full of goals, but he could not win any silverware with the team. Liverpool FC has been on a downward slope for a very long time now, and this time they have been deprived of their European berth as well. This means that Fernando Torres would not have a taste of the biggest competition of football, at club levels, and would have even less hopes of winning anything during the next year.
Also, the person who brought Torres to Liverpool, Rafael Banitez, has left Liverpool for Inter Milan, and Torres has no further interests in English football. The likes of Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City are rising, which would further put doubts as to Liverpool’s return to top football. Thus, it is for sure that, with Liverpool, Fernando Torres’ dreams of winning trophies, for his club, have come to an end.
Fernando Torres had a good run with his previous club, Athletico Madrid. There weren't really alot of goals scored, but he did develop into a more rounded well adapted player. It is for sure that if he had stayed in the Spanish League he would have been targeted by many big clubs in Spain.
On the other hand, he could have turned Athletico Madrid into one of the big clubs. Torres is actually facing quite a dilemma, i.e. he cannot go to Real Madrid, as Athletico Madrid has a rivalry with the Spanish giant, and Barcelona has no place for Torres either. This is probably the reason why Torres was prompted to leave Spain and go to England in search of success.
Right now though, due to injury, it would be almost impossible for Fernando Torres to make a switch to any other big club, as he would not be able to pass the medical fitness test. He has also recent run at the World Cups which really brought down his credentials, which would lower the price of the forward. Still, if Torres wants his place on the Spanish side, where many superstars are struggling to get their place, he should definitely move back to Spain; a place which suits him more than any other league in the World.
