Torres Should be Fit for the Start of the Season
Liverpool have been handed a well-timed boost ahead of the new Premier League season with the news that striker, Fernando Torres, should be fit for their first game.
Torres picked up an injury while playing for World Champions, Spain, at the World Cup in South Africa. However, this injury is not as bad as was first feared and he should be ready to play for Liverpool providing he is still at the club in August.
Torres is arguably Liverpool's most important player and many people said that the main reason the club struggled last season was because Torres was not in the side for extended periods of time.
It's important to look at how vital Torres is to Liverpool plans because they may well risk him even if he is still carrying a slight injury by the start of the season. However, always remember that he is a hot property and there is always the chance he could leave the club at some point.
Vital
Liverpool play their football around Torres and Steven Gerrard. They are the two most important players in the Liverpool team and the two players who can create something special from out of nothing.
Torres is the quickest player in the Liverpool team and he is their best striker by some distance. They have learnt how to play without him while he has been injured but the point is that they can go up another level with him in the side.
At the moment he is not at the club because World Cup players have been allowed a short break before they join up with their English domestic league sides. It's vital that analysis and treatment of the injury is dealt with in the correct manner.
Peter Brunker, a leading medical officer at the club, said: "The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medial staff didn't consider it to be too serious at the time. He had an MRI scan yesterday which confirmed a small tear. He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks."
Future
Torres' future at Liverpool is still not concrete because manager, Roy Hodgson, will not be able to talk personally with the player until he returns to the club at the end of the month.
There is a gap between now and then where Torres or his agent may be approached by another club who will be looking to sign the striker. However, Liverpool clearly have big ambitions for this season and they will give Torres what he wants in order to keep him at the club.
There are many attractive options for a player in Torres' position because there will always be a number of clubs circling him like sharks. The best indications over his future will come when he speaks about it himself but for now it is just going to have to be a case of sitting tight and waiting to see what he says.
Advice
There is no doubt at all that a fit Torres will mean that Liverpool's chances of doing well next season are far greater. It could well be worth a punt right now on Torres bagging the most goals at the club next season and in the Premier League.
He seems to be a very loyal player and he may well stay on at the club to see how things progress under the management of Hodgson. However, more will be known when he returns to the club.
