Torres claimed that he is delighted to have scored for his team in the final. The striker admitted that it was a difficult game for his team as the opposition played brilliantly throughout the course of the 90 minutes.
The attacker also hailed the goal in the defining moments of the game and praised the team’s determination for working hard. He also heaped praise on the supporters for travelling to watch the final and is delighted with the amazing
feat of the team.
“It was great for me [scoring the opening goal]. We deserved this. It's been a very difficult season with a lot of games and in the end today was a very hard game, very difficult. Benfica played well but, in the end, we scored
from the set-piece and we prepared for this before the game. The supporters and the team deserve to get a trophy this season,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the Spaniard admitted that he is staying at the club after reports emerged in the press last week that he is considering Spanish La Liga as his next destination. The player is hopeful of honouring his current
deal at the club.
“Yeah, sure. I signed a five-and-a-half-year contract so I hope to stay for at least this time,” he concluded.
Chelsea claimed their first trophy of the season by winning the Europa League.
