Torres to decide on future after the World Cup
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has stated he will discuss his future with the club after the World Cup.
But the Spanish striker admitted he wants to know what will happen with the club before deciding whether he will stay. Torres will hold talks with new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson and the board when he returns from South Africa. “I suppose that when the World Cup finishes, I will speak to the people at Liverpool and they will explain to me the real situation of how things are at the present,” said Torres.
Torres’ agent denied this week that he said his player could be leaving this summer. The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, with Chelsea and Manchester City vying for his signature. So is a move likely?
“I will talk to the new coach," said Torres. "There’s time for that, but I want to finish the World Cup, go on holiday as I haven’t had a holiday for three years, rest and then there will be time to talk about all of that. The situation isn’t going to change whether we talk soon or later,” he said.
In other transfer news, Arsenal manager Arséne Wenger is ready to make a £20million bid for 21-year-old Mesut Özil. The German has been one of the players of the World Cup so far and his teammate Lukas Podolski has been linked with a £16.5million move to Manchester City.
Roy Hodgson is looking to bring Bryan Ruiz from FC Twente to Liverpool for £13million while Manchester United have made an approach for Karim Benzema of Real Madrid.
