Torry Holt retires after signing a one-day contract with St. Louis Rams – NFL News
Wide receiver, Torry Holt, has officially announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL) after signing a one-day contract with St. Louis Rams, the team with which Holt started his professional football career back in 1999.
Holt, who is considered as one of best wide receivers in the league, spent around 10 years at St. Louis before joining Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009. After spending a year with the Jags, he joined the New England Patriots in 2010 on a one-year deal.
However, he was released by the Pats after a few months as the player was injured and unable to continue playing.
Holt wanted to retire as a Ram and that’s why he signed a one-day contract with them before announcing his retirement.
The reason for his close association is the fact that during the decade he played for the Rams, Holt made plenty of record and led his team to a number of victories.
After his rookie year, Holt rushed for more than 1,000 yards in the next eight seasons. Not only that, he spent six straight seasons while registering 1,300 or more yards in every season.
While announcing his retirement, Holt said that he wants to be remembered as the player, who enjoyed his time on the field and had fun playing the sport.
He said:
“I want my legacy to be a guy that respected the game of football, a guy that respected his teammates, his coaches, challenged guys on a day-to-day basis, whether I said something or didn’t say anything and just loved playing.”
Rams’ executive vice president of football operations and chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, was also pleased to see Holt retiring as a Ram.
He said that he was proud to celebrate the special day with Torry and while appreciating the player’s talent, he commented:
“Torry’s career achievements define him as one of the franchise’s most exciting players, and it’s only appropriate that he complete his remarkable career in a Rams uniform. As a key figure in one of the greatest offences in NFL history, Torry spent an entire
decade thrilling St. Louis fans with his clutch catches.”
