Torsten Frings back in training
Good news for Werder Bremen fans: veteran midfielder Torsten Frings has rejoined his team-mates in training. The 33-year-old skipper returned to the pitch after being sidelined by a hip injury for two
weeks.
"It is going really good. Until now I haven’t had any problems," Frings said on the German club’s official web site.
Frings' return is welcome news for Werder, which is preparing for their Bundesliga home match against Freiburg on Saturday.
Frings has featured in six games for Werder in the Bundesliga this season, scoring three goals. He also played one match in the UEFA Champions League.
Also returning to training after recovering from their injuries were midfielder Tim Borowski and defender Clemens Fritz.
Borowski was sidelined by a groin problem while Fritz sustained a thigh muscle tear. Borowski has made three starts this season but has yet to get a goal or an assist. Fritz has figured in six matches
and made one assist.
Another player who is preparing for his return to Werder is Claudio Pizarro. The Peruvian striker is expected to resume full training after coming off an injury lay-off.
"I have done a lot of work to get in top condition again, so I am a bit tired. But the muscle is holding up well. Maybe I can return to squad training on Wednesday," said Pizarro after joining the members
of Werder’s under-23 squad in a running session.
Pizarro has only played in three domestic matches and one DFB Cup game this season. He scored a goal in the DFB Cup but is still goalless in the Bundesliga this year.
Werder Bremen is struggling in the Bundesliga this season. The team has secured only eight points from seven matches as they remain in 13th spot. Werder drew with Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 in their last domestic
match.
