Tortoise in SA?

Is there someone that can help me. I have a baby tortoise, no clue on what species tortoise it is. It is still very small, R5 coin size. We have been giving him strawberries, oranges... He does not want to eat the lettice. We give him water every day with a spoon, seing we dont have something small enough for him to drink water from, he might fall in and drown.

What else can I feed him? What does his habitat have to look like? Also for when he gets big.

My friend has 3 of them that he put in a big fish tank when it rains and when it is winter. I would like to know what I can do from my side to help them as well. He has a light in it and keeps it on 24hours a day 7 days a week. the one side has water in it and they make turns going in it.

If someone could get back to me that would be great.

  1. South America? If you found it, it could be a Red-foot Tortoise, a Chalco Tortoise, or a Yellow-foot Tortoise. Probably the Red-foot- assuming it is a tortoise and not a turtle.

The three have very different cares, but neither you nor your friend seems to have a very good idea of the right cares for any tortoise. Lights on 24/7? Half water and half land tank? Water from a spoon?

For good care ideas for a tortoise, try http://www.tortoisetrust.org or http://www.tortoise.org

  2. you can get turtle food from a pet shop that has bugs in it which is what they need.it will not drown as they are water animals

  3. honey you don't say what type of tortoise you have or have a picture to show so it will be hard to tell you how to care for it different types of tortoise have different care needs, here are some sites that might be able to help you identify what type of tortoise you have and how to care for it,
