Torvar Mirsky wins 2011 St Moritz Match Race as Ian Williams leads overall championship standings
Australia’s Trovar Mirsky sailed The Wave Muscat brilliantly in the final race of 2011 St Moritz Match Race to claim the title beating Pierre-Antoine Morvan of Extreme Team Morbihan. Despite the win, Mirsky is still at third place in the overall standings
of match racing, as Great Britain’s Ian Williams of Team GAC Pindar leads with 90 points.
The weather conditions on the final day of 2011 St Moritz Match Race were ideal before the rain made them a bit lighter. The winds shifted continually and made sailing impossible due to which the race committee decided to conclude the final day without any
race completed in either the Petit final or the final.
However, Mirsky grabbed the victory on the basis of a count back which decided the overall standings. The Australian won his first event since Portimao Portugal Match Cup in 2009 and he is happy to have his form back.
While speaking to local media at the end of final day, Mirsky said, “We’d have liked to race the final and win the proper way but we’re happy to take the win so life is pretty good! My career has been a bit of a rollercoaster this year so to get back out
there and show people what we can do is the best thing.”
He added, “I’m so happy with our team and the way we performed this week, it really couldn’t have gone better. This is only our second win so we’re happy - it will give us a good boost moving forward to the rest of the Tour.”
Result from the Final:
Torvar Mirsky (AUS) The Wave Muscat beat Pierre-Antoine Morvan (FRA) Extreme Team Morbihan
