Tory McCutcheon of UCF enjoys huge spotlight – Volleyball news
The Milton, Ontario native, Tory McCutcheon is an important player on the women’s volleyball team of University of Central Florida (UCF).
She plays at the middle-blocker’s position and has strong presence in the court. It has been three seasons that Tory has helped the Knights with great many honours and achievements.
The student of Microbiology and Molecular Biology is not only a fine athlete but also has good academic records. In her major, she achieved 3.94 GPA. She got the knack of different sports such as baseball, soccer, figure skating and horseback riding while
growing up, but ultimately found the charm in the game of volleyball and excelled as top player in her team.
Sharing her thoughts in this regard, she said, “At one point I had three sports going on at once. I played baseball in the summers, basketball on a boys’ team for a year, and then we got a girls team, and then volleyball later.”
However, the coaches at UCF and her teammates praised her for making a good choice and finally settling on volleyball.
Before joining UCF, she studied at the Ontario high school, where she proved her endeavours as a good athlete. Especially in the sport of volleyball, she did an amazingly well and settled for the positions of senior athlete of the year and MVP. The assistant
head coach of UCF, Michelle Chatman, saw her performance and invited Tory to visit the UCF campus. She visited the campus and got selected as a player in the team.
The experienced head coach of UCF, Todd Dagenais, helped her to further improve her game skills. In a short span of time, Tory worked out great name in the team. She emerged as the second player in UCF volleyball history to catch a spot on the Capital One
Academic All-District First Team. As a junior, she recorded 169 kills with a team-high .329 attack percentage in 2011. She also led the UCF squad to its first 20-win season since 2003.
Todd Dagenais complimented Tory in the following manner, “She is a remarkably competitive athlete and person. That competitiveness comes out in the classroom as much as it does on the volleyball court. She has such a high standard of expectation for herself.”
She became a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in the last three seasons.
Tory is quite satisfied with her present role in the team. She said that she has been marked by steady growth at UCF. In her first year with Knights, she made 18 starts and continued to attain more success over the next two seasons. She emerged as one of
the best middle blockers in Conference USA (CUSA) last year.
She has plans to opt for medical field after her graduation at the University of Central California. She has not confirmed yet where she would do it here or move back to Canada.
