I got the Toshiba HD-A35 (the latest)DVD player the first week in Dec.07. Now if HD-DVD is going out of business... then what does this means for me. I still have another $400.00 to pay. Will they stop copying movies to HD-DVD's.

  1. you're screwed.. shoulda bought bluray

i'm smart.. i bought neither, but now that the dust has settled and there are no more HD's to be made.. i'll probably stick with my combo VHS and DVD player. it fits what needs to be done. if i need to tape a movie i wind the tape to the beggining and watch it. it's like tivo but smarter :P

you're screwed.. haha you should complain and put toshiba completely out of buisness.. who needs their craptops anyway..

or take your toshiba and shove it up your A55 woops i mean your A35, the latest model was cancelled..

    you're screwed

  2. One word.  Ebay !

  3. I hate to say this, but you were foolish to pay that much money for a top of the line anything given the unsettled state of the High Definition DVD format in December. You are going to have an expensive DVD player for ordinary DVDs..

You going to eat it, but you might be able to pick up some disks very cheaply in closeout sales. You're not going to be able to rent disks in most cases. It's going to be worse than Betamax.

In the end, you're going to have to buy a BluRay or use Apple TV or something like it.

I bought an Toshiba HD DVD quite a while back when the prices fell to $250. I thought it was worth taking a chance on and BluRays were three times the cost. And at the time, the output of HDDVD disks was looking pretty good.

Things started going to h**l last summer after some warning signs. No way anyone was going to support two formats.

Not to be a wise ***, but this ought to be a lesson to you. When there are two competing standards, wait until the dust settles before you go out and spend major bucks that you can't afford for a heavy paper weight.

Betamax might have been a better format and it took a while to finish dying, but VHS won. This was quicker and the coup de grace has been given. It's over.

  4. You've got an effective, if perhaps impractical, paperweight.  Welcome to the perils of early adapting.

  5. I never did like Toshiba
