Toshiba HD-DVD Player...?

Now Toshiba have offically stated they will drop their HD-DVD format, does this render HD-DVD players useless? Their price has dropped significantly, is it worth buying one, or should I just pay extra and buy a PS3?

Thanks

  1. The Toshiba HD DVD players are excellent upconverting DVD players that will also play HD DVDs.

If you want put a piece of black tape over the HD ... voila you have a DVD player.

Why all the Blu-ray fans are so myopic re HD DVD players is puzzling. There are over 400 HD DVD movies available ... many of movies not going to be available on Blu-ray for months (Transformers, Matrix, etc). A HD DVD player for $75-$100 is a great deal simply as a DVD player -- remember THEM? -- there are about 81,000 titles available vs less than 500 Blu-ray movies -- and HD DVDs are the same or less expensive than Blu-ray disks (or soon will be) and can be played back in that "DVD player". Finally, until the end of the month you get 7 free HD DVD disks with the $100 or less player.

Does it have a big future re new movies past the next few months .. no, but other than taking up two inputs on your HDTV how can you lose?

  2. Well considering that by the end of May, if not sooner, there will be no more movies released on HD-DVD. So yes I would say they are useless. PS3 is the way to go.
