It think this bs! Not everybody had blu-ray player! I remember that my dad that he use to have VHS player & he supported & he was happy that VHS won over against BETA. What I am going to do with my HD-DVD now since ghetto Wal-Mart,Netflix & Bestbuy are not going to restock HD-DVD anymore? I think this is wrong. What do you think?

  1. "Reliable industry sources" expect Toshiba to drop out, but there's been no announcement as of yet.

I was hoping that HD-DVD would continue on as a low price storage solution, but with Blockbuster, Netflix and now Walmart all pulling the plug on HD-DVD, I wouldn't blame Toshiba for throwing in the towel.

  2. I didn't really care which side won.  I am glad that all the movies are going to becoming out on one hd format.  I bought a PS3 a few months ago hoping blu ray would win.  I still have a hard time spending $30 on a movie I can buy for $20 and upconvert it.

  3. Not everyone has a DVD player either, but it's pretty much won out, hasn't it?

Your HD DVD suddenly isn't going to stop working.  You can still watch your movies on it.  You can also probably snag some really good deals from people trying to sell their HD DVD collections to go Blu.  You can also buy another HD DVD player in case yours ever dies.  Those are on clearance now.

But remember, now Bluray has to try to convince people to buy Blurays rather than normal DVDs, which isn't going to happen for a while.  So neither side has truly won.

Another option is to pick up a dual format player.  That will play HD DVDs and you can also expand your collection into Blurays.

  4. I expected it to happen but to be honest I thought Blue Ray was going to lose because Sony lost out on Beta.  But it is good for the owners of the Sony PlayStation 3 which is much better buy at $400 up over Samsungs $600 machine.  I was actually waiting for this before investing in a PS3, I am going to wait until the news is confirmed but when it is I am going to go get a PS3.

With two competing technologies like this it is better to wait it out or there is a risk of ending up on the loosing side.  Just like that stupid HD cassette player I bought in the early 90's, that was a wast of money!!

  5. Well you knew before buying HD DVD that there were 2 formats and that one of them would be obsolete at some point. You should have done like me and got a dual format player.

  6. I think HD-DVD is dead...

NetFlix, big retailers and studios have picked Blu-ray.

HD-DVD has Universal, i don't think that going to be enough to save it. Micro$oft already said they would make a Blu-ray Add-on so there not holding steady with their support.

    It's over.
