can anyone suggest how much a replacement (if it's possible) for a toshiba laptop backlight roughly speaking?

  1. Roughly speaking, CCT (cold cathode tubes) replacements typically run between $10 and $20.

    This does not mean it should only cost you that much to get it fixed.  CCTs are filled with mercury, very thin, and very fragile.  Breaking one can cause illness, if the area is not properly ventilated.  Also, disassembling an LCD screen all the way down to the point where a CCT (or two) can be replaced is time consuming and delicate work.  Just the act of replacing the tube is very touchy.  This is why most repair shops won't even do the work.  They will simply want to replace the entire screen.

    So although the CCTs are cheap, the job of replacing them is expensive, as it should be.
