Toshiba laptop 225cds

Question

I just bought a used laptop for my daughter and it worked fine until I took out a cd and now it is frozen and just keeps beeping, It won't doing anything but beep, I have tried to turn it off but it just beeps. I am a single mom and not too computer friendly. I am emailing you on own my newer toshiba my family bought for me. Any suggestions, or did I buy a dud?
