  1. I know Toshiba is very painful to deal with, but usually in the end it is worth it to call them.  You could try calling, then while you wait put your phone on speaker phone and set it next to you while you wait so you can still be productive, not truly wasting time.  They will probably direct you to a UPS Store, I work at one, once there, the UPS Store people will take your comp. ( if Toshiba has agreed to help), pack and ship it at no cost to you.   My experience with Toshiba customers is that Toshiba is willing to help, call your local UPS Store, make sure they do Toshiba corporate accounts, then call Toshiba!  Hope this helps

  2. get more RAM, 2GB at least, up to 3GB if you have 32bit OS (XP or Vista).

    also go to Windows Defender, Tools and then remove the programs that you don't want to automatically start when you boot your Windows (Defender is a MS freebie for XP, std issue for Vista).

    good luck

  3. Hi Girly

    Call Toshiba because the next thing you will know, it will overheat and stop working. That is the problem with all the Toshiba laptop lately. I bought 2 and the 2 of them are in the garbage. They started getting slow and slower and eventually died. I sent them back. Got 2 new ones and the same thing started happening.

    I do have a degree in Computers and know how to build and program them. So I am not stupid . get an Acer, Mac or Dell. but, first, get it fixed and sell it.

  4. You probably have a bunch of spyware on it.  Save the stuff you want to keep onto CD or DVD and then do a system restore to get it back to how it was when it was brand new.

  5. How about actually giving us the specs?

  6. on the keyboard hold down the windows key and press r

    then in the command prompt type in

    msconfig

    then go to the start up tab

    and click on it

    click on disable all

    apply and then exit and reboot the computer see if that helps

    also go to if you use ie then go to tools inetrenet options and del cookies and temp files

    thne go to start go to all programs go to accessioris and systme tools and then go to disk clean up and clean disk then in system tools defrag hard drive and then reboot  and see how it works

    good luck

  7. every thing is fixable, you may be best to take it to a computer fix it shop and pay $65 to fix it

    however you can try yourself

    Using Vista

    ==========

    ok there are things you can  do, just find out how

    1.  if you got a laptop then reduce the slider sensitivity of the touchpad.  Some are so sensitive that they sense the palm of your hand nearby while you are typing which causes crazy things.  Or it sense your fingers hovering above and causes data to move unexpectedly. This can happen even if using a mouse.

    2.  anything that doesn't work properly just right click the icon and check through the properties screens

    3. Vista basic needs codecs to run dvd's. Install a codec pack.

    4.  on both laptop and desktops set the power management menu items to never,  Only use a screen saver. disable hibernate.  All this turning stuff off is trouble.

    5.  Also go into device manager and set all the USB devices so that their power never turns off.

    6.  Google vista tweaks you may find something that really helps your situation.

    7.   run windows live onecare safety scan every couple of weeks  (google it)

    8  You need 2 gig of ram, check in the performance tab of taskmanager to see if you got 2 gig, if not buy more.

    9.   set up ie7 like this

    IE7

    =======

    Over time IE7 seems to set its own (or programs do) tick boxes in the advance tab.

    In IE7 Tools >Internet Options >Advance Tab

    Click Restore advance settings defaults button.

    Then scroll the listings down to near the bottom and:

    Tick empty temp files when browser closes (this empties the cache, which if not empty, will stop you from going online).

    Bullet disable phishing filter (optional. Leave it on if you want that type of protection, usually for financial data like internet banking)

    Delete Browser History, cookies, add ons,  the whole lot regularly. Do it every few days.

    Close the browser to set the settings.

    10  Note only run one firewall and only one phishing filter program per computer.

    Vista - defragmenter

    ===============

    1. Open the Disk Defragmenter by typing defrag in the search box in the Start Menu and click Disk Defragmenter in the search results.

    2. If you don’t want Disk Defragmenter to run automatically (not advised) uncheck Run on a schedule.

    3. To modify the schedule click Modify schedule.

    4. Change how often, what day, and at what time you want disk defragmenter to run at.

    You can also defragment your hard drive(s) at any time by clicking Defragment now.

    You should not install another third party program as the vista program does shadow work in the background that suits the operating system to able to work.

    Wow vista lag?

    first go to start menu then search (above recent items) then search for "command prompt" then right click on command prompt and run as administrator.

    Enter the following:

    netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    If you found that this doesn’t fix your problem, you can turn it back on by entering the following:

    netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

    Vista c**p

    ...ok, first i'd simply recomend going in and turning off all the c**p, a good starting point would be running this registry file that will turn off everything that doesnt need to be on at boot.
