Toshiba locked with a password

Question

Bios screen and boot screen ask for a
password I never set. Toshiba Tech support in India says I need to
purchase a recovery cd from them for $40 to reset password and wipe all
my data off.Will not work with a new HD. I took the laptop apart and was looking for J01 pin
to short out. could not find it. Could I remove bios chip for a reset?
Let me know..though it would make a nice anchor for my fishing boat
