Toshiba satellite Dead

Hi. I own a Toshiba Satellite P300 - 19H. I was writing a paper and decided to leave the computer on and unplugged, with my document open on the screen, for an hour. I figured the battery would die and that I would restart the computer and still have the document. Strangely enough, however, when I returned I found that the battery was still charged, the light indicating the computer is "on" was on as well, but the monitor was blank. I have hooked it up to the charger - it doesn't respond. I have tried ctrl - alt - del and escape - it still won't respond. I've also tried putting in a dvd and a memory stick. In those cases it whirs like it is reading them, but the monitor remains blank. I try to turn it off but it won't respond at all. The lights stays on, the computer continues to whir, but the monitor won't work. What should I do?
